It was true nearly 60 years ago when West Texas oilmen Howard Parker and Joe Parsley shook hands to form what would go on to become Pioneer, and it holds true today.

We were founded as a democracy, where people come first, and all other considerations come next. We know the value of putting in a hard day’s work and the importance of doing things the right way.

In an age where some are rewarded for cutting corners, we reject the notion that faster means better; that safety and stewardship are negotiable; that the best ideas must come out of a boardroom.

Those core principles set us apart.

Pioneer Chairman of the Board Scott Sheffield perhaps summed it up best: “Provide your talented employees with the right tools. Place them in the proper working environment in which smart, motivated people are empowered and challenged, and decisions are timely. Success will naturally follow.”

We’ve weathered decades of booms and busts, myriad mergers and acquisitions, and the whims of a global energy economy, because we choose integrity over convenience.

We strive to become the country’s leading independent energy company. And we believe we can achieve that goal because the backbone of our bold mission is built on teamwork, diversity and inclusion, mutual respect, personal accountability, safety and stewardship, ethics, and integrity.

Deals these days involve considerably more paperwork and fine print than they did in 1962, but here, the most important agreements are still finalized with a handshake.

That doesn’t make us old-fashioned. It makes us Pioneer.
